Mulch
Mulch prevents weeds from seeing sunlight. While it helps to prevent weeds, it also helps your plants thrive by improving how the beds hold moisture and help with limiting pests. Some types of mulch that you can use are wood chips, straw, gravel, and more. What you have in your beds may depend on which mulch is best suited. If you want to control weeds from growing in your plant beds, mulch will help!
Herbicides
There are pre- and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are preventatives. This is what is used to make sure that you don’t get any weeds in your plant beds to begin with. However, if you’re already seeing weeds come up from the soil, post-emergent herbicides are needed. They will kill the weeds that are above ground. Both are necessary for controlling weeds.

Hand Pulling Weeds
Although no one wants to do it, hand pulling weeds can be very beneficial. This will stop weeds from leaving more seeds behind to grow and spread. This will also pull out the roots so more won’t grow as well. Make sure to get every part of the weed! Any way to stop the weeds from multiplying is the way to go.
Weed Barriers
When you have done all that, remember that you can put in weed barriers. Landscape fabric can be used underneath mulch to stop weeds from growing through it but will still allow water to pass through it for your plants. You can also use newspaper as an alternative, but it will not last as long and may need to be replaced more often.
