How to Control Weeds in Your Plant Beds

How does one control weeds in their plant/garden beds? We can tell you! AND we can help you! Controlling weeds in beds requires a combination of mulch, herbicides, pulling weeds, and weed barriers. If weeds get out of control, it will be harder to get a grasp on the problem. We are here to help you minimize that problem! Our Bed Weed Control service can help. Here are some on How to Control Weeds in Your Plant Beds:

Plant Bed Weed Control Tips in New Jersey

Mulch

Mulch prevents weeds from seeing sunlight. While it helps to prevent weeds, it also helps your plants thrive by improving how the beds hold moisture and help with limiting pests. Some types of mulch that you can use are wood chips, straw, gravel, and more. What you have in your beds may depend on which mulch is best suited. If you want to control weeds from growing in your plant beds, mulch will help!

Herbicides

There are pre- and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are preventatives. This is what is used to make sure that you don’t get any weeds in your plant beds to begin with. However, if you’re already seeing weeds come up from the soil, post-emergent herbicides are needed. They will kill the weeds that are above ground. Both are necessary for controlling weeds.

We offer both residential and commercial bed weed control services. Stay ahead of the bed weeds by signing up for our Bed Weed Program today!

Weed Control Service

Hand Pulling Weeds

Although no one wants to do it, hand pulling weeds can be very beneficial. This will stop weeds from leaving more seeds behind to grow and spread. This will also pull out the roots so more won’t grow as well. Make sure to get every part of the weed! Any way to stop the weeds from multiplying is the way to go.

Weed Barriers

When you have done all that, remember that you can put in weed barriers. Landscape fabric can be used underneath mulch to stop weeds from growing through it but will still allow water to pass through it for your plants. You can also use newspaper as an alternative, but it will not last as long and may need to be replaced more often.

We hope you found our How to Control Weeds in Your Plant Beds informative. Once weeds get out of control it becomes very difficult to combat them. The best thing you can do is take preventative measures.
