Beetle larvae, better known as grubs, are extremely common in New Jersey. Grubs can cause widespread damage to your lawn as they eat at your grass’ roots. This will cut off access to the nutrients your lawn needs to grow. Grubs also welcome wildlife such as birds, raccoons, and skunks which feed on grubs. This will result in an entirely different host of different problems. New Paragraph
1. Dead patches that won’t grow.
If you have dead patches that aren’t growing, it is possible that you have grubs. Grubs will eat at your lawn’s roots so they will prevent any new grass from growing.
2. Grass that won’t respond to water or lawn fertilization.
Piggy backing off sign number one, this is a really big sign that you may have grubs. If you have a patch in your lawn that isn’t growing even when you’re watering, seeding, and using fertilization, there is probably grubs.
3. Sponge-like feel when you step on it.
Try walking around on those questionable parts of your lawn. Is it a little squishy? Does it feel different then other parts of your lawn? You may have grubs!
4. The ability to easily pull back your turf.
If your lawn is squishy/sponge-like, can you pull it back? If you can, you probably have grubs! They have most likely ruined that portion of your lawn to the point that you can pull it.
5. Wildlife such as raccoons or skunks.
Wildlife feed on grubs. Have you noticed an increase in birds, skunks, and raccoons in your yard? You may have an issue with grubs. Go and check the areas of your lawn that you have seen them!
